The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 Regulation 9 requires any equipment used as local exhaust ventillation to be subject to a thorough examination and test at least once every 14 months. I'm paraphrasing so here is an excerpt and a link to the full document...

(2) Where engineering controls are provided to meet the requirements of

regulation 7, the employer shall ensure that thorough examination and testing of those controls is carried out –

(a) in the case of local exhaust ventilation plant, at least once every 14 months, or for local exhaust ventilation plant used in conjunction with a process specified in Column 1 of Schedule 4, at not more than the interval specified in the corresponding entry in Column 2 of that Schedule; or

(b) in any other case, at suitable intervals.

Why 14 months? No idea but it means that it won't coincide with one of the three-monthly PAT checks, which is a bit of a nuisance.

As the HSE is concentrating on issues with dust right now, it my well come up if your site is inspected and they will be checking to see that your extractors have a TExT certificate.
