ST CHAD'S CHURCH, CHADWELL HEATH

Client
St Chad's Church

This project commenced in July 2023 after a detailed review of the planning designs and construction drawings by our architect, Frank Architecture.

So far, we have removed the pews and reduced the level of the floor to accommodate underfloor heating. The church has asked that we provide photographic updates for the congregation so we will update this page and post to our Facebook and Instagram accounts regularly.

Let's start with some activity over the past week. The font has been removed and is stored ready to be reinstated in its new location. We have also dismantled the pulpit and made an exciting discovery

30th October 2023

  1. New concrete slab laid over whole of nave area. Now leaving to dry for 7 days then new insulation will be laid.

27th October 2023

  1. Reinforcement mesh laid over nave floor ready for concrete.

  2. Plastic protection to brickwork.

19th October 2023

  1. Corridor ceiling stripped back

  2. Old vestry ceiling stripped back

  3. New drainage for WC's in the rear corridor

  4. A look at the beam supporting the rood cross, under the decorative timber

  5. A closer look at the pegs holding the crucifix to the beam

  6. The bricked up exit from the area behind the organ pipes and external stairs previously hidden in "Al's shack"

  7. Many of the pews and raised floor removed

  8. Levelling sand and damp proof membrane installed across the whole nave floor

  9. Providing a drainage channel for the font in its new location

  10. Contemplating the removal of the pulpit sections

  11. Just the base remaining

  12. Lastly, our discovery of a handwritten message from 1886. Full details to follow when we have done some more investigations.
